Metro Mattress donates beds to 21 charitable organizations in the Albany/Mohawk Valley region through its “50 Beds in 50 Days” program
Metro Mattress, upstate New York’s largest mattress retailer, is donating new beds to 21 charitable organizations in the Albany/Mohawk Valley region as part of its “50 Beds in 50 Days” program.
Now in its second year, the program kicked off in Syracuse in January 2011. In addition to the Albany/Mohawk Valley region, the program was also successful in the Syracuse, Buffalo, and Rochester regions. A total of 200 beds have been donated across the state to 86 charitable organizations.
Over the past year, more than 140 501(c)(3) organizations submitted applications requesting a total of more than 3,100 beds in all four regions of New York State that the program was offered in. Charitable organizations in the Albany/Mohawk Valley region that will receive beds through the 2011 “50 Beds in 50 Days” program include:
AIM Services, Inc., Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Albany Community Action Partnership, Albany, N.Y.; Capital City Rescue Mission, Albany, N.Y.; CAPTAIN Youth and Family Services, Inc., Clifton Park, N.Y.; Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, Albany, N.Y.; Center for Disability Services, Albany, N.Y.; ClearView Center, Inc., Albany, N.Y.; Family and Child Service of Schenectady, Inc., Schenectady, N.Y.; Harvest Church, Clifton Park, N.Y.; Mercy House Shelter for Women, Albany, N.Y.; Northeast Parent & Child Society, Schenectady, N.Y.; SAFE Inc. of Schenectady, Schenectady, N.Y.; Salvation Army-Herkimer, Herkimer, N.Y.; Saratoga County Rural Preservation Co., Ballston Spa, N.Y.; Schenectady Community Action Program, Schenectady, N.Y.; Shelters of Saratoga, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; St. Charles Lwanga Center/Catholic Charities, Albany, N.Y.; St. Paul's Center, Inc., Rensselaer, N.Y.; Troy Area United Ministries, Troy, N.Y.; United Way of Fulton County, Gloversville, N.Y.; and Vanderheyden Hall, Wynantskill, N.Y.
Selected recipients received all or a portion of the beds requested in their applications.

Metro Mattress, the Syracuse-based retailer, has become a local institution in several upstate New York markets, including Syracuse/Central New York (12 stores), Rochester (10 stores), Buffalo (8 stores), Albany (8 stores), Utica/Rome (3 stores), and the Southern Tier (2 stores).
